Boot camp?

In an effort to get into shape and hopefully loose some weight...I decided to join a gym. Not just any gym...because that would be a waste. I decided to join Jim's Gym. Asking around, I learned that it is a "boot camp" gym where you have a personal trainer for 8 people max at a time. Stories I had heard were..."you'll puke your guts out but never be so happy in your life." "If you talk to your running partner, he'll increase your treadmill speed." etc. So, in my insaine mind...I decided this would be a good thing to do. WHY? Well, many reasons.
1. If I paid so much for this gym, I would be more inclined to go.
2. If I have someone telling me what to do, i'll do it. (sometimes)
3. If I have someone to go with, i'll be more comfortable...and more likely to go, because I don't want to let anyone down.
So, today was the first day.
I woke up at 5:35..after several nudges from my husband...because he's annoyed with the alarm clock. I got dressed in my newly purchased running shoes and work out clothes. ( I didn't have any of that...why would I?) I drove to the gym.
Then it started.
Running on the treadmill, at a speed determined by Jim.
At the point I think ... "I have to hold on to not fall off" ... the incline is increased to 5!!!!!
We do lunges for what has to be 2 miles.
More running on the treadmill.
Crunches, sit ups, push ups, up downs...all things that I haven't done since basketball tryouts in high school....I didn't make the team.
As I leave after somehow making it through...probably because I walked the 3 times we had to run around the building...I am driving home thinking...
I think i'm going to like this.
I would do a before and after picture...but I don't have an after picture yet...and I don't want to scare anyone with the before picture. So, I will wait until I have an after picture to put with it.
It is my goal to run the 5k race during Clinton Fun Days. That is at the end of my 6 weeks of workout that I have paid for.
I'm very greatful for my friend Natalie (really her husband for ALLOWING her to come) because I just am not outgoing enough to do something like this on my own.
Now it's off to bed...if I can stand up from this desk and walk up the stairs.
I have to get up at 5:35 again tomorrow.

5 Years!

We have known each other for 5 years. 5 years ago we went on our first date. It was a blind date. I don't think that night, really, that I thought we would be where we are today. Brian said that 5 years a 1 day ago he was miserable and didn't know what he was going to do with his life. It's funny when you think back on things. You just know that life turned out the way it was supposed to.

For fun, we thought we would go back and do the same things we did 5 years ago. We went and ate dinner at La Puente on 3300 S. and State St. Well, that restaurant has since burned down (not by us) so we decided to go to Lorena's in Bountiful. It's the same food.

The next thing we did on our date (which some of us call our 2nd date) was ride trax. Brooklyn was really excited about this one. She thought we were going to go on Casey Jr. (Poor girl!)

(for those of you who didn't know, which would be almost all of you, I did cut my hair and go blonde....er on monday. now you know.)

Our 3rd date that evening was a stroll through Temple Square. There, we discovered the "famous" or should I say "infamous" lion face. I tried to get a picture of it, but it was kinda hard with the light and the flash...but, if you know what it is, you can see it. And if you don't know the story...you might not get to know it, because there are now 2 different versions of what happened. It HAS been 5 years!

The date ended with some special "getting to know you" conversation by the fountain in front of the church office building. Once again, there are different versions to the story. You are NOT allowed to ask Brian his version.

I just think it was fun to go there with the whole family and take a look back over the last 5 years. We went from skinny little us with a cute little rental house to some bigger usess who built a house and then sickly little me and then came baby...and then happy three of us and then sickly little me and then the 4 of us, once again bigger usess. We start the diet/work out programs on Monday. SERIOUSLY!

Anyway, besides all of that, I am so greatful for the man that I met 5 years ago and the change that it brought to my life. He is a wonderful husband, father and my best friend. I enjoy spending time with him, our love for our children and all the my life has become because of him.

WOW, 5 years already!

Disneyland....again! SURPRISE!

Well, we did it! We pulled it off! The day after we got back from our last Disneyland trip, we decided that we had too much fun and wanted to go again. Brian's family was going in May, so we decided what better time than that! We wanted to go with his family since his parents and sister had never been. I thought it would make the trip that much better for them to have more of their grandkids there. Well, we told Roxanne and Kelly not to say anything to anybody and we would surprise everybody! It worked! After all the hints and bets and promises...nobody caught on. Perfect! We showed up at the airport and the surprise was almost ruined as Brian walked into the terminal and there sitting on a bench was Shannon, Mom, Roxanne, Joree, KC and Sheridan. He quickly covered up and said that we had come down to surprise them and see them off. The group came to the security checkpoint and there I was with the kids and Brooklyn said her well trained statement: "Surprise, we're going to Disneyland!" They didn't catch on until I said, yes, WE are going to Disneyland. Shannon didn't believe us at all. She had to see the tickets to make sure. It was a priceless moment.

And, staying true to history....we have been home for a day and already booked our next trip. This one won't be until September. We are going to go for our 5 year anniversary. No Kids! We have to find some way to use our Annual Pass that we got!

I want another one....hair cut, that is.

So, while I was getting my hair done yesterday, I decided it was probably time for Brooklyn to have her hair trimmed. (I think we have only trimmed it to make it even in the past)...and heck, hair grows back, let's get it cut!

She is so funny with her posing and i'm just grateful I was able to get a picture without the cheesie grin. I think that it turned out really cute and that Allison did a good job. It curls under when it dries...gives her kinda the bob look. Cute!

I think with this picture I told her we were going to Disneyland to get her to smile! HEHE
